The beautiful venue has hosted everything from grand balls in the Victorian era, early 1900s silent movies with orchestra music and dancing, town hall meetings, and Firemen’s Balls in the ‘30s and ‘40s.

On November 19, 1892, a fire swept through downtown Camden, destroying a large number of wood-frame commercial structures, including the town offices, numerous fraternal meeting facilities, and the town's opera house. The Opera House was one of the most prominent buildings constructed in the wake of the fire, designed by Lewiston architect Elmer I. Thomas and completed in 1893.

The Camden Women’s Club was the first community theater group, presenting “The King and I” and “Finian’s Rainbow” to packed houses. The building was designed to house not just town offices and the theater, but meeting spaces for local business organizations and the local post office, as well as two retail storefronts. In 1932, the former post office space, facing Washington Street, was remodeled to serve as Camden town offices. Willis Carleton, a lifelong resident of Rockport decorated the interior, including stereo relief gold and white on the stage arch, balcony front, and loge boxes. The auditorium itself measures 36 feet by 33 feet and boasted a kitchen, ticket office and checkroom to the left of the main landing; on the right were individual rooms. The Katherine Aldridge Tucker Room is also handicapped accessible from the street level by taking the elevator to the lobby level (2nd floor) and proceeding to the right to  the room.
